ReMateria Lab®® ReMateria Lab®
Construction and demolition site with recovered materials

We help turn what a construction site leaves behind into new circular materials for your project.

Services

We investigate existing resources, materials and waste streams to develop new circular possibilities for architecture.

Impact

Every material we develop reduces demand for virgin resources, cuts embodied carbon and keeps construction waste out of landfill.

Our Approach

We start from what already exists — a building, a construction site, a territory — and research our way to new material possibilities from there.

Who It's For

Architects, manufacturers, municipalities and researchers who want to build with what's already available rather than what's easiest to extract.

Circular Economy

Most construction still runs in a straight line — extract, build, demolish, discard. We work to close that loop, so what would have become waste becomes the starting point for something new.

Materials

Understanding, harvesting and developing the resources already available in a building, project or territory.

01 Material & Resource Research Mapping the waste streams, by-products and secondary resources already available within a building, project or territory — and what they could become.
02 Material Harvesting & Reuse Treating existing buildings as material banks — preserving, sorting and reconfiguring bricks, stone, timber and ceramics instead of sending them to landfill.
03 Material Research & Development Characterising, formulating and testing new material possibilities from identified resources — earth, recycled minerals, construction waste, bio-based composites. This spans a wide range of techniques, from rammed earth and compressed earth blocks to geopolymers, foamed ceramics and other composite formulations, each tested for density, porosity and structural performance before moving forward.
04 Material Prototyping Translating research into physical samples, blocks, panels, surfaces and architectural elements — in-house, or with fabrication and laboratory partners.
05 Environmental Assessment Life cycle assessment, embodied-carbon and circularity analysis to measure the real environmental performance of materials and design strategies.
Design

Translating circular materials into real, buildable architecture.

06 Circular Renovation Strategy Material reuse strategies, design for disassembly and circular specifications for renovation and adaptive-reuse projects.
07 Circular Architectural Design Turning circular materials into meaningful architecture — concept design, material palettes, 3D modelling, detailing and specification.
08 Digital Fabrication & Experimental Design 3D printing, CNC milling and robotic fabrication, used when they enable better use of local, recovered or experimental materials — not as an end in themselves. This includes 3D-printed earth and mineral pastes, CNC-cut formwork for rammed earth and cast elements, and robotically fabricated moulds for one-off or small-batch architectural components.
Collaboration

Connecting people, resources and institutions around a shared material process.

09 Workshops & Training Hands-on sessions in material discovery, earth and mineral materials, reuse and circular prototyping — for architects, students, craftsmen and institutions. We don't just talk about circular materials, we learn by making them.
10 Local Innovation & Industry Networks Connecting resource producers, researchers, manufacturers, architects and building projects into a single material development process.
11 Funding & Innovation Project Development Helping transform material and architectural research into fundable innovation projects — from concept and partners to technical documentation.
12 Project-Specific Material Labs A dedicated material lab built around a specific building, site or territory: map, harvest, research, develop, prototype, design, assess, document.
What We Can Accomplish Together

Working with us means building something that lasts, for the industry and the planet.

Resilience
Less dependence on virgin raw materials and volatile supply chains, built from what's already local.
Partnerships
Projects that connect resource producers, researchers, manufacturers and architects around a shared material process.
Readiness
A forward-looking position as circular material requirements become standard across the industry.
Impact
Measurable reductions in embodied carbon and waste sent to landfill, project by project.

From existing resources to new architectural possibilities.
